A great REM song

Friday, July 31st, 2009

On to video fifty five. This is undoubtedly one of the best songs that REM ever produced, and is one of my favourites of theirs to sing. I can’t remember how many times I’ve sung this song, but it’s quite a lot. It is of course “Everybody hurts”. A song that is vocally challenging.

This is my rendition of this classic song:

Now for some Youtube updates.

It’s happened! I’ve gone past 500 subscribers. This was helped a bit by someone else on Youtube featuring me in one of their vids. Down to the figures.

My subscribers are now 508.

The viewings of my channel are 10,981.

Viewings of all my videos are now 143,916.

Next, is a more up to date song, and was also one of the videos that a hater reared their head.

Me singing Bonnie Raitt

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

I’ve bypassed 2 videos, because I thought that they weren’t relevant. One was a Christmas song, and that’s not really in vogue at this time of year. The second was was a thank you video, to all the people that left comments for me.

So moving straight on to the 51st video I uploaded to Youtube. My first experience of this tune was by George Michael. After a bit of digging, I discovered that it was originally recorded by Bonnie Raitt. I now own both versions. I found Bonnie Raitt’s original to be relatively low in key for a female vocal. George Michael’s version was reasonably high for a male. So what if the male vocal was in a lower key. Might that make it sound more intimate. I had to find out.

Here are the results:

The regular Youtube numbers update.

My Subscribers have increased by 4 to 456.

10,774 Channel Viewings. That’s a very small increase. I’m happy with any increase at all :)

Finally, my total video views are 130,781. Not as big an increase as normal, but still very good.

Coming up next. It’s probably one of David Gray’s most well known songs.

Me doing Man on the moon

Monday, March 30th, 2009

This was the start of better quality sound on my videos. The music was now being played through the headphones, and not the speakers I was now using the Stereo mix channel on the soundcard. Now everything was not going through the mic. This allowed me to put a reverb effect on the vocal without doing the same to the music.

Which left me with one other major problem. The video and audio synchronisation. The vocals were not matching the video, which made it seem like I was miming. That is my voice singing the song though.

Now the song. This was my second REM song. Another good one by the band. This one is called “Man on the moon”.

My rendition is below.

One commenter was completely sure that it wasnt me doing the song. I think that had something to do with the sync problems, but complimentary in a way, condsidering they thought it was a proper recording :)

My second video

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

And now for my second video on Youtube. I got a few positive comments on the first one, though I must admit that the first coment was an un-intelligent expression. Most likely a child. I wasn’t bothered about it though. I’ve seen the best get bad comments. I’ve seen a real range of singers on there. From excellent to awful!

I’m going to be doing a post for each of the videos so far, and then I’ll post every time I put a new one up. I’ve got some catching up to do :).

If you want to check out what I’ve done so far you can go and visit my channel which is:

In the first video I didn’t really like where I had the camera pointed, so I’ve moved it. There’s a nice view of my stairs. Well, now you know I don’t live in a bungalow. :)

The second video I uploaded to Youtube is from a band whose music I admire. R.E.M. The song is called (Losing my religion). See what you think of my attempt at it:

There are over a thousand songs that I have sung, but I still have a problem choosing which one to do next. I think it’s called too much choice. It’s confusing.

So onwards I go. Check out my next post, and if you can’t wait then visit my channel which is linked above.

All the best.
