A place where I’ve never been.

Monday, March 1st, 2010

This is another collab with Ulf Pettersson. That wonderful musician from Sweden. It’s entitiled “I wanna see”. I wasn’t being serious when I wrote this song. It was a bit of a subtle parody, but then Ulf heard it and loved it. He asked me if he could do his own arrangement of the music. I accepted of course, and this is what he came up with. I think it sounds better than the original version I recorded.

Once again, this song does not appear on my album “Sight Or Sound”.

I look forward to possibly getting involved in a few more collabs with ulf. He is a musician I have a lot of respect for. Ulf also likes a lot of what i do, but we are both currently bogged down with other things to do. I’m beavering away with my own music, and Ulf is involved in composing for TV and Film. It’s likely that you might have heard something by him without even knowing it :)

Now for the next episode of events from my fathers life.

My Dad. Part 9.

I mentioned before that my father got involved with some unsavoury characters. I had a variety of friends before my father was a part of my world. It transpired that there was a possibility that some of the friends I made might not have been purely by chance. I’m not a judge of people. I base my assumptions on how they treat me. There were a few of my friends that told me that I shouldn’t really mix with some of the people I met, because they were trouble. Though whilst I went around with them, there was never any trouble. Not in my company. I found it amusing how people feared some of the individuals I kept company with. I can honestly say that that is something I never felt. They never gave me any reason to fear, and to be honest with you. I wasn’t afraid of much at all. I was of the mind that if something bad came along, you dealt with it. Why worry about something that hasn’t happened? It turned out that my father knew all of those questionable individuals. Even some of those I’d worked with when I left school.

I’m going to tell you a tale of something that reportedly went on at Cowgate road. To protect me from any recriminations, I’m going to say that this is alleged. It’s something my father told me, and something that was confirmed by a number of other family members. It involves a certain superstar called “Tom Jones”. I’m going to assume you’ve heard of him. The story goes that he took a 14 year old girl into the fields at Cowgate road and had sex with her. Pregnancy followed, but the poor girls life was cut short, because she died from leukemia. It’s likely that she gave consent, but that kind of act was still illegal. I’m not sure if the story ever got out, but it’s quite an astounding story, because he was an adult at the time. I would assume that it was not unusual for something like this to happen in the sixties. It may not come as any surprise that certain members of my family are not very keen on Tom Jones.

To be continued…….

My album release has stirred up a bit of interest. It will be another 2 months before it’s available in all digital outlets. CDBaby, Itunes and Amazon among a few others are already digitally stocking it. There’s more information on my website:

Jeff Edwards official website

You can get to Ulf Pettersson’s site via my links page. There are also a number of free high quality downloads of some of my other songs!!

The youtube statistics section now.

The subs are almost there. Tantalisingly close to the 1k mark at 992.

The channel views have raced forward to 23,296, and the viewing figures for all my videos combined is 397,648. They have seen an increase in their rate in the last several days.

Lastly….

That is the end of the string of five original compositions. The next few are going to be cover versions. Coming up is my rendition of “Lost” by “Coldplay”. I’ve been asked many times to do this one over the last month.

The non-album tunes

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Now it’s time for some original material. This one is the 1st out of a number of original compositions that didn’t make the cut for the album for various reasons. You can listen to clips of some of the album tracks for “Sight Or Sound” at:

Sight Or Sound - Jeff Edwards

Amazon and Ruckus also list this album. More to follow. 10 of the songs are in full on my Youtube channel, and the other 5 are not.

This particular song is called “Tell me why”. This is another from a large batch of songs I composed several years ago. It is centred around the demise of a relationship, that ended mysteriously. I’m confident that there will be a few that will recognise this dilemma. I did like this song, but I thought the chorus was a little weak, and there were better songs to choose from for the album.

You can check it out here:

More Dad stuff now.

My Dad. Part 5.

As I suggested previously, he once lived in a place named “Cowgate road” in Greenford, West London. In his mother’s residence. Music is something he was crazy about. So it was no surprise that he got into the scene. His instruments were Harmonica and Guitar. He was only ever a part of one band in his life. Their name was “The frasier chorus”. It was a 4 piece harmonica band, and my father played the chromatic. They had very little in the way of success. They never secured a record contract, but they did enjoy touring with bigger, well known bands.

As he was a part of the mevement, he spent time with a number of individuals that you may recognise today. He has shared a few of his stories with me, and I found them interesting, and surprising. Even with my tolerance. I suppose it wasn’t so much of an issue in the 60’s. Now I’m not sure if this happened in Cowgate road, but I’ve been told by my father about Lulu and Brian Poole of Tremeloes fame. My father never really liked Lulu. He had a few names for her but none of them are repeatable here. He informed me that Lulu used all the tools at her disposal in order to achieve fame. I don’t find that sort of thing surprising. Many people did that. Don’t quote me on this because it was my father that told me that Lulu and Brian Poole were having sex behind my grandmother’s settee. Floors are cold and hard. Well this one was. Why didn’t they use the couch. It would have been far more comfortable. Unless someone else was sitting there :)

To be continued…….

As always. Here are the Youtube figures to up to the time this was posted.

My subscriptions have increased to 953.

The amount of viewings for my channel are 22,268.

Aggregate video views are now 374,240.

Another original next that was a result of a suggestion.

The third selection. Winner

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

This is the 3rd of my old original songs choices. This is a song called “Winner”. The words can be interpreted in different ways, but the meaning I attach to it is for mistaken friends who need support.

This song was also co-written with Mick Paul. I finish off with details about what mick is up to now in his music career.

If you watched the last vid I posted, you will have learned that Mick played bass on a David Hasselhoff single. There aren’t many people who don’t know who he is. He’s been in smash hit shows such as “Knight rider”, “Baywatch” and “America’s got talent”.

This is “Winner” by Mick and I:

Winner - Jeff Edwards and Mick Paul

Mick is quite busy doing the touring thing at the moment, with an outfit named “The David Cross band”. David Cross used to be in a band called “King Crimson”. They were very well known. If you come from Italy, you might have heard of David Cross. He’s pretty popular there, and it’s one of the reasons why most of Mick’s touring takes place in Italy.

Now here’s the regular Youtube numbers update.

My subscribers have seen a really good jump in the last few days. Racing past the 700 barrier to 717.

The channel views have rolled along to 16,017. Another barrier broken.

Last but by no means least. The total video views. They are 246,003.To say I’m pleased is an understatement!!

I’d like to get a few Coldplay covers done for my next videos, because I love singing their songs.

Who knows what I will do. I’ll choose when I choose. It was about this time last year that I was getting ready for my first independant album release.

You can listen to some of the songs tracks and also download some of my original material for free on my website. Here’s the address:

Until the next post :)

Amber falls on the other side

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

I’m going to revisit 3 chosen songs I composed when I first started recording my music seriously.

A few years ago I wrote and recorded 9 songs in about two weeks with a very talented guy called “Mick Paul”.

Mick is a fantastic bass player and has done a lot in his career to date. He also owns his own recording studio, and this is where those 9 songs were recorded.

I’ve selected 3 of those 9 songs to put on youtube, and this one is the first of those choices.

The title of the song is “Amber falls”. The meaning is quite dark. Let’s see if you can work out the theme of the song, before the video informs you close the end.

Check out the video here:

Amber falls - Jeff Edwards and Mick Paul

I have put some snippets of info about Mick in this first video, and I will be adding more to the following 2 videos. It’s possible that you may recognise a name or two from the information to come.

I added a warning in the video description of this particular song, because the song has what is known as “Speaker busters”. They are very deep and loud bass hits, that can possibly cause some damage to a bass speaker when it’s on high volume. I just thought I’d let you know that. :)

Now for a youtube update.

I’m only 10 away from 700 subscribers now. So I’ve currently got 690.

The channel viewings have increased to 15,424.

My total video viewings are 235,621. At this rate, I might get to the quarter of a million by the first anniversary of my first video upolad to youtube.

In my next post, I’ll be bigging up the second of the three selected old original songs :).

It’s a Broadcast fantasy.

Friday, October 9th, 2009

I was in the middle of writing another song when I came up with the idea for this one. So I stopped writing the first one to complete this song. It’s title is “Broadcast fantasy”.

Well, i’ve recently gone past a two year membership on Youtube, and at the end of my first year I wanted to upload a song in celebration, and this one seemed perfect. It’s a tongue-in-cheek look at TV addiction. As Youtube shares a lot of similarites with television, it seemed like the right choice to make.

This is different in style again, to my previous songs. I think this one sits more in the pop arena.

I hope you enjoy it like I did:

I put this video up less than a day ago, and the response so far is very good. Lots of lovely honours :)

So back to the numbers. Here’s the Youtube latest.

There are now 639 subscribers to my Channel.

My channel has now been seen 13,842 times, and all of my videos have received a total of 205,218 viewings.

I’m aiming to make the song I was originally working on, my next upload. Though I have been known to change my mind at the last moment :)

My tune - Dont wish it away.

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Here’s another one of my originals. It was put up on YT a while back.

It’s an original song that I wrote over a year ago.

On all of my other videos that contains my original songs, the videos are comprised of image slideshows. This one is different. This is my first Original song video that contains moving images. I wanted the content to reflect the meaning, and I think I’ve done that pretty well.

The name of the song is “Don’t wish it away”. It’s about people who wish their days, or life away. Perhaps because they are sad or maybe waiting for something to happen. You’ll notice things vanishing, and also things going in reverse. There is symbolism in all of this.

Take a look and see what you think:

Dont wish it away - Jeffstunes

Here’s the regular digest of Youtube food (for me).

My subscribers are at a nice round 550.

The viewings of my channel are now 11,329, and the overall viewing figures all of my videos are now at 162,129.

Coming up next is a cover version. Something from a legendary artist. None other than Mister Clapton.

Video 63. Sight Or Sound

Monday, August 17th, 2009

So now I’ve reached the sixty third vid. Almost up to date now.

This is an original song by me, called “Sight Or Sound”.

I have been writing poems since before I was 10, and one thing I liked to do was make a puzzle out of them, and hide things within the words.

So it’s no surprise really, that those elements ended up in some of my songs. This particular composition is one of the songs I played about with. In the description, I ask people to work out what the song means, and if they can discover all the links within the song and the video. I have only given the answers to those that have asked. I like it that some know, and some don’t.

This was a song that I wrote 2 years ago, and it features a very good friend of mine, and a very accomplished guitar player. He is “Steve Morgan”. Last year he was married and all is well to date.

So I hope you enjoy the song, and the wonderful skills of Steve.

Here is the song:

Sight Or Sound - Jeffstunes and Steve Morgan

Here’s an update on the Youtube numbers.

542 Subscribers.

11,175 channel viewings.

158,875 total video views.

Only one third more videos to catch up. The next is going to be another of my originals. The video has a lot of reversal. That will be very soon :)

It’s a sign

Friday, August 14th, 2009

This next number was a collaborative effort with a Canadian musician. I came across this guy a few years ago, before I started posting videos up on to Youtube. He is quite a prolific writer and loves to co-write material. So he would send me the music that he created, and I would attempt to put words and a vocal melody to it. It’s a bit like Elton John and Bernie Taupin. The difference was that we made absolutely nothing from it :)

We got through several songs, and we both quite liked the final results. In july, last year, I started posting up my videos to Youtube. Earlier this year I encouraged my musical friend from Canada to start posting his stuff on to Youtube. He did quite well, and that’s well deserved.

Now to the point of the post, and the song in question. He posted up some music, inviting others to put words to it. It was a pretty good tune, as most of his are. I could hear the words in my head, so I proceeded to write the words and vocal melody. The resultant song was called “Traffic signals”. I used some imagery in the video, which is symbolic of the meaning.

Here is the result of our effort:

Traffic Signals by Jeffstunes and Songvibe

The last time i checked he removed all his videos from his ‘Songvibe’ channel on Youtube. Which is unfortunate really. He had some really good stuff on there.

As per usual. This is the latest on the stats.

539 Subscribers. Still on the climb.

11,121 channel views.

156,734 total video views.

So to the next post. It’s another original song that has a guest guitarist.

An Original - Take me home.

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

The week this one was put up on Youtube was quite a poignant one. It was a couple of weeks after the passing of my grandmother, The funeral was on the tuesday before the upload. I loved her dearly, but I cannot deny that she had a long life. She was 93.

In the early part of last year, I was taking part in music collaborations. One of these was with a Swedish man called Ulf. He is extremely talented, and had retired from gigging. He is now focussing on the writing side, and is currently providing music for film and television. I would say that the main area of his music is electronic. There was a song I completed with him, which was his music, and my words. This isn’t that song though. I only mention it because he wanted to have a go at doing the music for this song. We never got around to doing it, so this one is all me. The name of the song is “Take me home”.

It’s about someone who has made a big mistake in a relationship, that caused it to break. In the song, the person is appealing to their partner.

Check out the song here.

Original by Jeffstunes - Take me home

Here’s the latest on the stats.

My subscribers have been slowly increasing and are now at 534.

The channel views are now up at 11,121.

My overall video views are now 154,447.

The next video is a collaboration with a very talented canadian musician friend.

When I grow - by Jeffstunes

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

This is another of my originals. I first put this song up for Valentines day, as it is a love song. Everybody else seemed to be putting something up for that day, so I decided to put up one of my own songs.

The title of this song is “When I grow”. It’s a song of dedication.

This is it :)

Original song - When I grow

A few months ago, I altered my channel description. Inviting people to cover my songs, or use my music in their videos. This seemed like a good idea, because if people did do those things, it would help spread my music around. I’m bringing that subject up in this particular post, because someone did a cover version of “When I grow”. If you go to my channel on Youtube, you will see a playlist which is called “Covers and uses of my songs”. You will find that cover version in that playlist, and also 4 other videos, where someone has used my music.

As usual. Here is the rundown on the Youtube numbers.

I now have 516 Subscribers. So well clear of the 500 now.

The channel viewings have passed the 11k mark and now stand at 11,009.

The overall video views are at 146,277. Only another 104k to make it to a quarter of a million :) That will take a few months I think :) Though it could make it before that. None of my videos have been featured by Youtube. Along with many other Youtube members. If, by chance that should happen in the short term. The figures will go beserk.

From an Original to a cover. A lesser known song by a fantastic band.
