A place where I’ve never been.

Monday, March 1st, 2010

This is another collab with Ulf Pettersson. That wonderful musician from Sweden. It’s entitiled “I wanna see”. I wasn’t being serious when I wrote this song. It was a bit of a subtle parody, but then Ulf heard it and loved it. He asked me if he could do his own arrangement of the music. I accepted of course, and this is what he came up with. I think it sounds better than the original version I recorded.

Once again, this song does not appear on my album “Sight Or Sound”.

I look forward to possibly getting involved in a few more collabs with ulf. He is a musician I have a lot of respect for. Ulf also likes a lot of what i do, but we are both currently bogged down with other things to do. I’m beavering away with my own music, and Ulf is involved in composing for TV and Film. It’s likely that you might have heard something by him without even knowing it :)

Now for the next episode of events from my fathers life.

My Dad. Part 9.

I mentioned before that my father got involved with some unsavoury characters. I had a variety of friends before my father was a part of my world. It transpired that there was a possibility that some of the friends I made might not have been purely by chance. I’m not a judge of people. I base my assumptions on how they treat me. There were a few of my friends that told me that I shouldn’t really mix with some of the people I met, because they were trouble. Though whilst I went around with them, there was never any trouble. Not in my company. I found it amusing how people feared some of the individuals I kept company with. I can honestly say that that is something I never felt. They never gave me any reason to fear, and to be honest with you. I wasn’t afraid of much at all. I was of the mind that if something bad came along, you dealt with it. Why worry about something that hasn’t happened? It turned out that my father knew all of those questionable individuals. Even some of those I’d worked with when I left school.

I’m going to tell you a tale of something that reportedly went on at Cowgate road. To protect me from any recriminations, I’m going to say that this is alleged. It’s something my father told me, and something that was confirmed by a number of other family members. It involves a certain superstar called “Tom Jones”. I’m going to assume you’ve heard of him. The story goes that he took a 14 year old girl into the fields at Cowgate road and had sex with her. Pregnancy followed, but the poor girls life was cut short, because she died from leukemia. It’s likely that she gave consent, but that kind of act was still illegal. I’m not sure if the story ever got out, but it’s quite an astounding story, because he was an adult at the time. I would assume that it was not unusual for something like this to happen in the sixties. It may not come as any surprise that certain members of my family are not very keen on Tom Jones.

To be continued…….

My album release has stirred up a bit of interest. It will be another 2 months before it’s available in all digital outlets. CDBaby, Itunes and Amazon among a few others are already digitally stocking it. There’s more information on my website:

You can get to Ulf Pettersson’s site via my links page. There are also a number of free high quality downloads of some of my other songs!!

The youtube statistics section now.

The subs are almost there. Tantalisingly close to the 1k mark at 992.

The channel views have raced forward to 23,296, and the viewing figures for all my videos combined is 397,648. They have seen an increase in their rate in the last several days.

Lastly….

That is the end of the string of five original compositions. The next few are going to be cover versions. Coming up is my rendition of “Lost” by “Coldplay”. I’ve been asked many times to do this one over the last month.

Hardest decision to make

Monday, March 1st, 2010

This is number four out of five original songs on the bounce. This song started out as an instrumental song written by a wonderful Swedish musician called “Ulf Pettersson”. The first time i heard it, I imagined vocals blending into it. I put this idea to Ulf and he was very positive about me trying to make something out of it. Ulf liked a lot of the stuff I did on my own, and there’s a twist on one of those coming soon. Getting back to the focus of this one though. It’s entitled “Swings and roundabouts”. There are some good points about being involved in a relationship. There are also some good points to being single. Some of those don’t mix, and this is the view of someone facing that dilemma in a relationship.

This is what we came up with.

Here is the continuation of my father’s story.

My Dad. Part 8.

I didn’t realise when I met my father, that he was so much into alcohol. The clues were already there with his nickname of “Woodsy”. I was never that curious, and at that time I was unaware that he earned the name for his liking for “Woods Navy Rum”. Rum was his favourite tipple, though I think anything with a decent amount of alcohol in it would have done. So that’s how I finally found him. Before the knowledge of his exploits. I’m sure there are a lot of people that might criticise his life. I have done myself on occasion. The fact remains that he was my father. I feel no shame in that. After all, he helped give me life.

In the swinging sixties, drink was celebrated. Drugs were also on many menus. My father wasn’t much of a man for drugs. Drink was his vice. That’s not to say he didn’t take drugs, because he did. Though I think that was more for reasons of popularity. He didn’t go seriously into any types of drug, but he did like a bit of cannabis. I remember watching a film with my dad about the sex pistols, and he chuckled knowingly at the scenes of smoking pot in the living room. He recounted the times when the rolling stones were doing exactly the same thing in his mothers bedroom. Now that, I can believe. Somehow :) Apparently, a member of that band resides within a few miles from me.

I will say that my poor grandmother was blissfully unaware of all these goings on. Remember that she thought her son was a wonderful boy, full of integrity. Although she didn’t know these things. Just about everybody else did.

I’ve saved one more celebrity snippet for the next post. It was a tale that shocked me. Tom Jones fans look away. That’s all I am going to say right now.

To be continued…….
